Lots of immediacy with this performance. It was February of 2014, and after 23 years, our recording studio at 21 Powers couldn't be saved; just another small business sacrificed to the "progress" of Williamsburg real estate development. I can tell you that it didn't feel good.

I woke up in the middle of the night with this song in my head and wrote it down. It came out whole, and I went back to sleep. Later that morning, Charles DeChants who was then the full-time assistant engineer at Excello recorded it before we started our regular day.

The performance is just me and 1 mic, an RCA 77DX ribbon, and this is the last live recording made at 21 Powers Street. This whole time period felt like a pretty dramatic turn of the corner and I had no way to know where we'd all land. Thankfully (I think) Excello lives on at 231 Norman Ave!
